Books on smart home systems and equipment installation – any recommendations?

Jashi 30448 25
Best answers

What English-language books or e-books explain smart home systems, building automation, and equipment installation, and who are their authors and publishers?

Good starting points are E. Niezabitowska’s *The Smart Building – Volume I: User Needs and the Smart Building Standard* and *The Smart Building – Volume II*, both published by Silesian University of Technology Press in Gliwice in 2005, plus P. Patykiewicz’s *Modern Electrical Installations in Smart Buildings* from SEP Central Training and Publishing Centre, Warsaw (1996) [#3689040] Another useful recommendation is Martin Evans and Joshua Noble’s *Arduino in Action*, which includes theory, procedures, and projects, and Mike Riley’s *The Smart Home*, which is more project-focused [#14707338] One reply also pointed to an e-book link for E. Niezabitowska’s Volume II, *Basic Security Systems in Smart Buildings* [#9890194] If you want practical manufacturer material rather than books, the thread also mentions installer guides and training materials from SmartTech/Smartech [#8091298]

I am looking for literature that describes systems, servers and the installation of equipment itself – simply explaining how they work, or any literature related to this topic
Please could you provide the author, title and publisher. If you also have any e-books, please could you provide a link. English-language literature is fine.

    Many thanks in advance.

Have a look on this forum – this was discussed about two months ago, with a link to the manufacturer’s website for such systems, where there was an installer’s guide. As far as I’m concerned, it was quite clear, but they could have added a bit more information, in my opinion.

    Good luck with your search,

    Hello,
I wanted to write a Master’s thesis on smart buildings , and more specifically to focus on their security.

And so I have a request: could anyone please provide me with the latest available literature on this subject???

as well as suggestions for a topic (as I’m also having trouble defining the topic)

    Many thanks in advance

Drop a line to ‘inteligentnydom.pl’ – the company ‘Smart Tech’, or something similar. The company seems to be decent, and with a bit of luck, they’ll not only suggest an idea but also provide the equipment if you play your cards right. For an ordinary person (a student), IB equipment is bloody expensive; it won’t cost the company a thing to let a few units be used, and in return they get research, new solutions, a security review and publicity at the university ;) I was planning to do something with IB myself, but I’ve moved on to a slightly different field, so I’m selling the idea ;)

You could also ask other companies ;)

    A warm hello.
I need the following book for my dissertation:

    E. Niezabitowska – The Intelligent Building – Volume I and Volume II

I’ve looked for this book in bookshops but it’s not available anywhere.
Does anyone know where I might be able to get hold of it?
    Alternatively, a PDF would do.

    Best regards

You can receive these guides from Smartech – all you need to do is register and indicate that you’d like to receive them. They’re quite interesting and can provide insights into the solutions used in smart homes.

    Hello.
Can anyone suggest any literature on a slightly more specific topic: ‘energy savings through the use of smart building control systems’?
I’ve already gone through some of the references listed above. Perhaps someone else has something else to suggest. Perhaps some ideas on comparing or calculating savings with and without the use of building control systems in an office building.
Thank you in advance for any help.

Has anyone taken an interest in the HAPCAN project? At first glance, it’s an inexpensive system that’s described and documented quite clearly. And it’s Polish, too. Perhaps someone has one of these at home?

I am also writing my Master’s thesis on the topic: Electricity management in the home (monitoring and smart control). The thesis takes the form of an application/apartment simulator, featuring appliances that we can switch on and off, and programme to switch on at a specific time and for a specific duration. I’ve got that sorted!
The next stage is to introduce smart control/planning of energy consumption, so that devices switch on or off automatically depending on current or predicted electricity consumption, and so that tasks that can wait run during the G11 night-time tariff. And here, my supervisor told me to use some ready-made, existing algorithms (I wanted to do it using a few if statements, etc., but he insisted on some task scheduling algorithms) Are there any such algorithms that I can use? Please could you provide some links. The keywords given by my supervisor were: “time scheduling, linear programming, planning methods, task and process scheduling”

Hi, someone has already asked about this book but there was no reply, so I’m asking again: does anyone have the e-book *The Smart Building. Volume II. Basic Security Systems in Smart Buildings* by E. Niezabitowska? I need it for my engineering work.

I was interested in it. From what I’ve read, it seems the author used his own implementation of the CAN protocol; all the software is written for and under Windows, so porting it to Linux would take extra time. Overall, the project looks good, but personally I’d prefer something standardised.

I have a question. I’d like to learn how to design and install smart homes. I know there are courses on this subject, but I can’t seem to find anything online. If anyone has any information on where courses on this subject are held, I’d be grateful if you could let me know. I’d appreciate a quick reply.
    Thank you

Just for future reference, in case anyone ever drops by here. I’d like to recommend two books:
    1) ‘Arduino in Action’ by Martin Evans and Joshua Noble
    2) ‘The Smart Home’ by Mike Riley

The first one also includes theoretical content (i.e. descriptions, procedures, what to do and how) plus projects, whilst the second mainly features ready-made Arduino projects.

I’m also just starting to write a paper analysing smart home options, and I could do with some help because I can’t quite find my way around Google Scholar (or something like that).
