I've seen several monitors with a USB type B input but without a hub, recently I came across one, I know what it's for, I plug it in, the system found a new device, the HID interface device, the device has been installed and is ready for use. even in device manager it shows HID device...

    and that's all.

I still don't know what this USB is for??

e.g. if you have a USB output on the back of your computer and you want to connect a pendrive (digital, portable hard drives, recorders, etc.) and so as not to mess with the back of the computer, you have a USB input at hand on the top.

Maybe it's some kind of software interface for this monitor?

Sorry, my mistake, I didn't read your statement carefully.
Can you tell me what monitor it is?

some NEC, when I get it again I'll tell you exactly, but I emphasize that it's not the first monitor with USB without a hub that I've seen, there was definitely another Samsung

probably to adjust image parameters from Windows, download the appropriate software and that's it, but what else would it be for?

now something occurred to me, HID interface devices are mainly pointing devices, maybe this monitor responds to touch, I must check it out

    Hello!

HID is not just pointing devices. The Polish name is "user interface devices".
They can also be printers - but I haven't seen one compliant with the HID standard yet.
As for the USB port on the monitor - it is also used to change settings from the system level. All you need is the appropriate software, certainly downloadable from the manufacturer's website.

    Regards!

I have a Formac 2010 Gallery 20.1`` monitor which has 2 USB ports on the back of the housing connected to the cable that you connect to the graphics card. Very creative. I connected the receiver of the Logitech LX7 mouse to the USB port on the back of the monitor, so the mouse is only 20-30 cm from the receiver (less battery consumption in the mouse)

nexus2k: this is not what you mean, CMS friend.
My CMS friend has only one USB input socket and no outputs.

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the purpose of USB Type B inputs on monitors that lack a USB hub. Users note that connecting a USB Type B cable allows the monitor to be recognized as a Human Interface Device (HID), which can facilitate software interactions for adjusting monitor settings directly from the operating system. Some participants suggest that this interface may also support touch functionality or other user interface devices. Specific monitors mentioned include models from NEC and Samsung, with one user referencing a Formac monitor that utilizes USB ports for peripheral connections.
