Hello, as there are owners, so many opinions, my Dear, I have two buses T4 2.4 D and Ducato 2.0 jtd (i.e. predecessor 1.9). T4 beats Fiat on the head of work culture, fuel consumption at 0.5 tons T4 does not feel the difference, i.e. about 8l / 100 km, the Fiat burns 1.5 liters more. Everything is ok, if nothing breaks down in the T4, the oil filter radiator is rotten - the effect of oil in the cooling system, welding head, cost of a 16-year-old PLN 2.5 thousand. Finally, in order not to be boring, the reason is not a weak head, as most people say, only human error or component failure.

    1-Does not fit
2-why change something that was reliable for a pile of expensive Chinese junk.

I do not know if you have already bought any of the discussed versions of the T4 but if not, I can help a little. Currently, I have 4 such cars. Three with a 2.4 engine and one with 2.5 tdi and for some time I had contact with a 1.9td engine in multivan. As you can see, I put on t4 and I do not regret even light work. Two of the three with a 2.4 engine have large containers mounted and carry bread, the third is a passenger caravelle and tdi also a container but with a cooling unit. Fuel consumption of 2.4 liters in the caravelle version in urban mode approx. 8 liters. if you take care of the motor [oil filters, etc.] 700 thousand and it still rides. It's not a speed demon, but 140 km / h without a problem. Parts affordable and affordable. The difference between 2.4 and 1.9td is at the start, but the turbo does its job. However, such a mileage as in a naturally aspirated turbine is possible to crash earlier. One more thing, 2.4 is a workhorse, whether full or empty combustion is very similar, while the multivan which I rode with the load smoked like a dragon.

a friend wants to buy a T4, he read on the net that T4 transporter they rot very badly before the lift, is that true? Is it safe to buy such a year 1993 and there will be no problems with the sheet metal machine for the next few years? He bought a car pointlessly and then make a sheet metal machine every year :)

Born in 1993 - he is already an adult. Do not expect miracles, after 18 years the car will certainly have traces of corrosion. The question of how it was cared for over the years, whether the places where corrosion appeared were professionally repaired or just painted over with paint. I am reminded of the comment of the seller of a slightly younger T4 - "Lord, you will not find a single spot of rust, the car is tidy" - in fact, I would say that it is licked clean, and that ubiquitous fresh paint to which flies still stuck :D .

what is better to buy? Busa Renault Trafic 2001, Kia Pregio 2004 or maybe T4 96? Is the T4 so much a better car that even though the oldest will be the best?

It all depends on what you hit. I avoid the KIA invention, whatever it is. I have bad experiences. A French like a French is not the times that he had a very delicate opinion. But I still "love" t4. Although it has already been touched by time, there is no longer a car that makes 700,000 and still works great. But it's your decision, you'll be driving it.

If you are going to buy a multifunctional car, the T-4 lifted with a 2.5 TDI engine in the MULTIVAN version, the versatile car is perfect, richly equipped with a couch table, a folding fridge, a webasto climatronic and a large trunk and additional seats, there is a lot of space inside and you don't feel cramped conditions, ideal for trips, but if necessary, it can be quickly adapted to transport larger packages, :D

Renault Trafic 1.9 frequent breakdowns and expensive parts, T4 checked with a 2.5tdi engine.

I am a fan of the t4 2.5 tdi. I would not exchange this car for any other bus, if I had a choice of 1.9 and 2.4, I would choose 2.4 - not unreliable and proven

And I followed the advice of the wiser. I bought a T4 with a 1.9 engine without supercharging. The engine is like new, and its power is 50 kW.
And I'm nowhere, in no rush. The transporter's task will be to carry two people's belongings and haul 800 kg. boats with a trailer. Choosing an Engine for VW T4 Transporter for Electrician Work: 1.9D, 1.9TDI, or 2.4D?

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around selecting the best engine for a VW T4 Transporter suitable for electrician work, focusing on the 1.9D, 1.9TDI, and 2.4D engines. Participants recommend the 1.9TD for its lower fuel consumption and ease of maintenance compared to the 2.4D, which is noted for its higher power but also higher maintenance costs and potential overheating issues. The 1.9D is considered economical for city driving, while the 2.4D offers better acceleration on highways. The 1.9TDI is debated, with some questioning its availability in the T4 model. Overall, the 1.9TD is favored for its reliability and cost-effectiveness, especially for light loads typical in electrician work.
