    Hello,
i am in the process of collecting material on finding objects on the internet of things for my thesis. I just found some interesting articles in Computer magazine:
    - Browsing the Internet of Things with Sentient Visors,
    - Activating the Internet of Things.
And from other sources The Sentient Visor: Towards a Browser for the Internet of Things.
However, for the literature analysis I need some more material.
I would be grateful for any information about articles/books (etc.) on this topic.

This is a very interesting topic. In general, there is no standard for searching objects and I am wondering how to develop this in my system. I would like to suggest that it is worthwhile to get acquainted with the commercial Tellstick system - the control system searches automatically for sensors via RF 433MHz and is therefore plug and play.

I don't know what exactly is meant by 'IoT object search'. Maybe it is about the increasingly popular devices known as iBeacons that allow you to tag various places and moving objects in order to identify or locate them. Many of these devices, incidentally, act as a variety of sensors, sending measurement data in addition to the identifier.

I have not heard that the iBeacon standard contains anything other than "here I am", "id" and "signal strength" information. the iBeacons do not transmit any data beyond that. Of course, this can be combined with some other standard. Unless something has changed...

This is purely a question of name. an iBeacon transmitting some additional data beyond its identifier is usually called a 'sensor'. In practice, however, it is an identical device transmitting data in an identical way.
The iBeacon's broadcast frame contains a 128-bit identifier. In the 'sensor' it transmits, for example, temperature, humidity, pressure and many other things.
Thus, the iBeacon can be thought of as a specific type of 'sensor'. It is also important to note that once such a device is found, a connection can be established with it and much larger amounts of data can be exchanged.

    The question is not clear.

Computer science, electronics know a lot of similar issues to "device search". Of the high-level ones, the keyword that comes to mind is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rendezvous_protocol

Maybe the author can specify at which ISO/OSI layer he is interested in this

The full name of the thesis topic is 'Analysis of object search methods on the Internet of Things'. My thesis supervisor suggested that I focus on researching search engines such as shodan.io. However, I don't know if this is a good idea. In my opinion, since the topic is "analysis of methods..." it would be appropriate to present several search methods, from searching in the immediate environment (Bluetooth low energy, RFID ?) to searching the internet to find certain objects. I am currently in the process of writing an analysis of the topic and I am looking for materials to learn something about the subject and possibly choose the direction in which I would like to pursue my work further.

I definitely like your view, broader (going towards the lower layers). The words 'internet of things' alone may be catchy, fashionable, but it's just a media, marketing level. The actual work of us electronics engineers is a bit different, these are implementations of just close range, closed, datagram, no dns, behind a firewall etc.... IoT is a malleable way to tell amateurs about this work, but not the essence of it

    Without that, it's no 'overview'.

There was already a few years ago as vce pre USA All Gore said that "the internet is the kind of thing you can order a pizza through" . The media picked up on this. Did he lie? No, but the full truth was not presented. Incidentally, few other facts of his tenure (apart from his sentence) have made history. Does this mean that doctoral theses should have been written about ordering pizzas?
