    Hello I have this problem. Yesterday the workers from tauron were doing something to the mains and after switching the power back on there was a big bang in the house and all the electronic devices including the gate controller went out. The controller shows that there is a burnt (torn) capacitor just below the 220V power plug. Maybe one of my colleagues could suggest what kind of capacitor could be used there, because the old one doesn't give any readings

    How sure are you that there was a capacitor there?

    I don't know if it's a capacitor, or if it's called something else, but I can see that it's burnt out and it's just the side where the markings are.It's plugged in parallel to the 220v supply, the size of a 50groszy and it's blue in colour

    Try to solder this component then perhaps from the description on the PCB you will be able to find out what it is.

    For the time being I have to wait for the commission from TAURON which will estimate the losses, and there is quite a lot of it, all white goods, washing machine dishwasher cooker

    Wait for the commission, then you will see what is worth doing. Most often they will reimburse the cost of repair or replacement if it can't be repaired. You will need a VAT invoice for reimbursement. Your fault looks simple and the faulty component is probably a varistor. The purpose of the varistor is to protect the equipment from surges.

    But what kind of varistor could be there because you can't read anything from the old one, the only thing is that it is blue in colour. One more thing, what are the symptoms of a tripped varistor, because now my fuse in the controller blows all the time

    Almost certainly a S20K275 varistor, blue with a diameter of 20mm. It costs about £2.

    Hello, I finally managed to find the values of this varistor. It is a ZOV 14D 431K,(you can see when you zoom in) but I can't find one anywhere.What replacement could I give

    reverence,

    colleague @domsat has already written to you. However, I suggest a small correction.
    Instead of S20K275 ===> S14K275 (lower power, i.e. 0.6W) and
    therefore the S14K275 exactly fits as a replacement for yours.

    Thanks, That's the one I used that my colleague domsat suggested, because I couldn't find the smaller one, the most important thing is that everything works nicely. Many thanks to colleagues who helped me solve the problem :D :D :D
