    Hello.
I've already asked this recently and I'm having further problems as a result.
I decided that I would use this tutorial.
I have established communication with the ESP module and am stuck on the fact that the AT+GMR command only returns "0020000903". The module should return the command parser version and the SDK version.
Seemingly nothing but then most commands don't work anymore. Only AT+CWLAP seems to work.
I tried uploading different firmware versions with different programs, the effect is always the same.
On the tutorial page no one answers the problem. Someone already wrote about the same case that year.
I am therefore asking for help here on Elektroda.
Maybe someone has already had something like this and knows the solution.

However, it seems that you have not made the update:

    Quote:
    AT+GMR
    AT version:1.3.0.0(Jul 14 2016 18:54:01)
    SDK version:2.0.0(656edbf)
    compile time:Jul 19 2016 18:44:44
    OK

Write exactly how you did the update:
    1. which files and from where did you download?
    2. which files to which address did you upload?
    3. what tool did you use for uploading and what were the messages?
    4. what version of the module do you have and how much flash memory does it have?

    So yes.
I downloaded the files mainly from GITHub. Link
I upload such files to the addresses:

    boot_v1.1.bin —————->0x00000
    user1.bin ——————–>0x01000
    esp_init_data_default.bin —->0x7C000
    blank.bin ——————–>0x7E000

I used Nodemcu Firmware Programmer, ESP FLASH Download TOOL and some third one, can't remember the name.
The messages were always ok, just an operation completed successfully.
The modules are ESP8266-01 memory probably 512.

I also suspect a problem with the updater but there is so much that I am lost.

That is, you used files from 2 years ago :)

Use the original manufacturer and on their website: http://espressif.com/en/products/hardware/esp8266ex/resources

The one whose GMR result I showed you is: ESP8266 NONOS SDK V2.0.0 20160810

The only problem is that the version of ESP you have of the new software probably won't accept it because it has to have 8Mbit of flash, and you probably have 4Mbit I think.

You should check the size of the flash memory - do AT+RST:

    Quote:
    ets Jan 8 2013,rst cause:1, boot mode:( 3,6)

    load 0x40100000, len 2408, room 16
    tail 8
    chksum 0xe5
    load 0x3ffe8000, len 776, room 0
    tail 8
    chksum 0x84
    load 0x3ffe8310, len 632, room 0
    tail 8
    chksum 0xd8
    csum 0xd8

    2nd boot version : 1.6
    SPI Speed : 40MHz
    SPI Mode : QIO
    SPI Flash Size & Map : 8Mbit(512KB+512KB)
    jump to run user1 @ 1000

    I checked I have 4Mbit of memory.
I also uploaded another firmware: ai-thinker-0.9.5.2
Now I have parser version 0.21.0.0
    And SDK version 0.9.5

Now other commands are not working.

    E.g. AT+CWLAP gives Error

Unfortunately ... it is worth buying the newer modules. Order yourself some from China for future projects with 8Mbit, at less than $2 each.

I won't advise you what soft to upload, because I don't know the historical versions. Maybe someone else can advise ...

Okay I'm letting go of these modules.
    I have one ESP8266-12.

That firmware you wrote about earlier will surely be suitable for the task I want to do?

@dondu An article on how to flash modules has been waiting to be published on the blog for about six months :)
