Does anyone have any knowledge whether it is possible to connect an audio signal from a raspberry pi to a KBSound ISelect 5' radio (purchased in 2012, without Bluetooth module)? Unfortunately I can't find any information on whether the head unit has any audio input (e.g. jack or coaxial), and at the moment I don't have access to it. I'd like to know the possibilities before I start stripping the ceiling to get to the radio (unfortunately the team setting up the place placed the radio in a rather impractical way).

No, the only option for connecting an additional audio source is a dedicated BT module.

Ok, there are BT modules on the market for around 370pln. Do they work with every version of the I select 5 radio or only the new versions where there is a BT sign on the remote control?

Bluetooth module only works with new type radios, before purchasing the module itself, check that there is a Bluetooth logo on your radio.

Well, I can see that the hardware is dire, as there is still the option to connect to an Ipod docking station, but these cost over PLN800 each, given that it fits at most an Iphone 4, it's a waste of money.

Would it be possible to use the remote control and the speakers by connecting it to an amplifier? Then you could somehow coolly add a light sensor diode as a switch. The question is how much would such an amplifier cost to connect the speakers to? It would be even better if it had a powered USB output to power the Raspberry Pi directly from it. I'm just looking for a cheap solution for having a mobile managed Spotify, but using the speakers in the ceiling rather than a free standing BT speaker, as I don't have room for that in the bathroom anymore.

16Ohm speakers, 2x1.5W built-in amplifier - you could be tempted to add an IR receiver to the RPi, plus some sort of low voltage amplifier circuit....
