    Welcome!

I want to build myself a simple automation for gates, some outdoor lighting etc at home. On the internet I came across these 2 platforms which are pretty good for starting to play with IOT

And now a question for you: Which of these platforms - BLYNK or SUPLA - is better in your opinion?

I guess what appeals to me in favour of Blynk is the greater configurability (servo type etc) unless SUPLA also supports this, but I couldn't find anything about this anywhere. The downside is that you have to buy 'energy' in the app to use more stuff.

Supla, on the other hand, is our Polish project and, on top of that, fully free.

What is your opinion? Which has better configuration options like GPS from a smartphone, some light level sensors, better schedules etc.? I'm just getting to know the subject slowly so I'm asking.

    Best regards!

    Try it with this.
In my case blynk won because it has a lot of options

And is there any way around these payments? (And I don't mean pirating or something) just e.g. Own server etc.

And do you take advantage of this greater number of options, or is it so illusory just "because I have" - something like buying a combine harvester to help yourself in the garden.

It is possible to set up a server locally, probably if you have a public IP it is even possible to access your device from the outside via blynk. I have already set up the server on win10, I am still struggling with sending the token.

The free energy is not enough for anything. One element is 200-400 energy points and you have 2000 points at your disposal.

The local server from what I remember gave 100000 points.

Unfortunately I don't have an external IP (they charge me extra for that, and I haven't needed it enough to pay yet...) but basically we control most things anyway by being nearby. I'd have to work on wifi coverage in the backyard.

I found a page about blynk in Polish, where an interesting thing is described (as far as I understood it) - you get full functionality with it, being in range of your network, and from the outside you can control a few things (included in the free version).

    Has anyone done this before?

Theoretically it is possible to change the login method, from local with full energy pack to remote to blynk.com. Just not sure how the widgets will behave when they suddenly lose energy. Provide a link to the site.

Topic summary

The discussion compares Blynk and Supla platforms for home automation projects such as gate control and outdoor lighting. Blynk is favored for its extensive configurability and numerous options, including support for servo types and various sensors. However, Blynk's free tier limits usage through an "energy" system, requiring purchase of additional energy points for more features. A local Blynk server setup can overcome these limitations by providing a large energy pool (around 100,000 points) and enabling full functionality within a local network, though remote access requires a public IP address. Supla, a fully free Polish project, is noted for its cost advantage but lacks detailed information on advanced configuration options like GPS integration or light level sensors. Users control most devices locally via Wi-Fi, with partial remote control possible in Blynk's free version. The discussion includes references to Blynk's Polish community resources and the possibility of switching login methods between local and cloud servers.
