What do we connect to analogue inputs in home automation and what do we connect to digital inputs? How do you check whether a door is open or closed without a reed switch?

Analogue inputs can be used to connect all kinds of sensors for temperature, humidity, sunshine, wind speed, etc. Digital inputs can be used to confirm that doors are closed, windows are closed, lights are switched off, a flood sensor. As for the doors, is there an option of mounting a reflector for a laser sensor or something similar on them?
