    Welcome,

I have aluminium and Glass tube luminaires outside. Such typical tubes.
I don't want to install a standard motion sensor, but to hide "something" in the fixtures.
And here's the problem. A PIR motion sensor bulb would not work.
I read about microwaves, but once they write that they pdze through something, other times that they don't. One electrician recommended a microwave sensor for aluminium, but it's mostly written on the internet that it won't work....

Do you have any experience? Help please, as I am completely unfamiliar with it....

    Thank you in advance 😀

And which PIR sensor did you use?

For detecting aluminium yes, but concealed in an aluminium housing it will not work.

Nothing will work through the metal part of the fixture, microwaves will work through the glass part, infrared not so much anymore.

Microwaves pass through the aluminium screen? On drywall you can throw it, but in sheet metal I somehow doubt it. A miniature PIR sensor and a hole to shoot through. Let's see what these lamps look like.

    Hello,
    the lamp looks like this:

However, the bulb and sensor are:
RICU LED and motion sensor lamp, 120°, OR-SW-7001LR3 Orno

I would prefer not to drill if the microwave sensor would pass through this glass.

How about putting this microwave inside the lamp , such as this one:

would its detection range only change to the "pole" of the glass radius at the bottom, or would the microwaves somehow propagate sideways "under the glass"?
I know this is an amateurish question, but I'm completely unfamiliar with it.... :)

According to physics, a microwave wave should diffract and spread a little to the side, but to be honest I don't know :D

In my opinion there will be no problems with propagation. I have (or rather had, because I converted) an led plafond with a microwave sensor. Unfortunately it was detecting movement through two walls of 24 centimetre supraconcrete. I tried covering the sensor with sheet metal and it didn't do anything. I ended up converting to continuous power.

    I found micro sensor bulbs

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the challenge of concealing a motion sensor within aluminium outdoor lights. The user seeks alternatives to standard PIR sensors, which are ineffective when hidden in metal fixtures. Responses indicate that while microwave sensors can potentially work through glass, their effectiveness through aluminium is debated. Some participants suggest that microwaves can diffract and spread, allowing for detection even when placed inside the lamp. However, practical experiences shared indicate that microwaves can penetrate various materials, including concrete, but may not perform reliably in all scenarios. The user expresses a preference for solutions that do not involve drilling into the fixtures.
