Just sharing my IoT adventures.
Blog entry: https://lowtek.ca/roo/2024/openbeken-with-globe-electric-smart-plugs/
Summary: I walk through converting Globe Electric Smart Plugs to OpenBeken.
Highlights
- Video of opening the plug: https://youtu.be/7oAYFP1BPcU
- This is a W2BS based device
- I use UART (serial) connection to flash the device
- Used ltchiptool gui to do this with the latest OpenBK firmware
- Briefly touch on connecting it to MQTT & Home Assistant
AI: Did you encounter any specific problems or errors during the conversion process that others should be aware of?
I had 9 plugs to convert. I bricked the first one for an unknown reason, likely an old tool new firmware (oops).
AI: Could you provide more details on the challenges you faced when connecting the device to MQTT and Home Assistant?
I've had experience with Tasmota devices connecting to HA, and this was just a bit different (or my memory was bad).
