Neutral Wire Current in Balanced Distribution System: What Happens if Neutral is Removed?

we do claim that neutral wire is a return path,but actually it carries zero current (we can prove this with a tester) how if a neutral wire is removed when the circuit is operating under balanced condition would the circuit behave normal?

The neutral carries the same current as the hot in a single phase system. if you are powering a load, put a clamp meter over the neutral, then the hot, you'll see the same current reading.

OR, if you are seeing no current in your Neutral line, then there is something wrong. perhaps a short to Earth Ground further up the line or to the (usually Green) ground wire (assuming one exists). Or, there is something wrong with your measuring device, or you're not using it properly.

When you say, "no _power_ indication" on the neutral line, how exactly are you "measuring" that power?

The "neutral" wire of an AC mains supply is normally at ground potential.
The "live" wire alternates between positive and negative voltage levels at the supply frequency.

A mains tester screwdriver touching a neutral supply wire will not light, because it only detects voltage, *not* the current flowing in the wire.

If there is a break only in the neutral wire supplying power to an electrical appliance, it will not work, but the appliance's neutral terminal will be at the (dangerous) live potential, because of the circuit through the appliance.

Because of such a fault, the tester would then indicate that the neutral terminal is "live" (dangerous).
