    I saw them being sold with no WiFi version. Are you saying that.... they still come with MCU supporting TuyaMCU? And you can just... solder then WiFI module like that and it will work?

    Yes, and it's usually like this. I got 3 thermostats that way, Avatto WT100, ME81H and a newer revision of ME81H. All originally without wifi but converted to it with ESPs.
    At least if there is a version with wifi, then version without wifi will have everything needed for conversion. Though i'm unsure about pet feeders.

    yes as @insmod said there must be a wifi version also available, then the non wifi version often has just the wifi module missing (in 9 out of 10 imho).
    not in any case it will be just soldering in the module and you are good to go. often you also have to check the pins so that the module is able to boot (isolate pins or make bridges.). this differs from model to model.
