How can I reconnect a SmartLife temperature and humidity sensor after replacing its batteries when pairing keeps ending with an error?

Try pairing it again in EZ/Quick Pairing mode and fully remove the old device from the app first [#21940751] If your model has a backlight button on top, use it as a reset button before trying to pair again [#21941289] One user with the same sensor reports that after battery replacement it normally connects to Wi‑Fi shortly after the batteries are inserted, synchronises the time, and then keeps working [#21941289]

    Hello

I have a temperature and humidity sensor which, until now, had been connected to the Ewlink, Home and Smartlife apps. As the batteries were running very low, I had to replace them with new ones. And since then, the sensor has refused to connect. It is detected by the Smartlife app, where I try to add it again. And just as the whole process is almost complete, an error pops up.
    The network is 2.4 GHz.
Sometimes I enter the name of my Wi-Fi network, and other times the network name generated by the sensor itself. When it’s detected, the app starts a process, but this always ends in an error. I’ve been struggling with this for a few days now, and the AI isn’t much help either.
Can any of you offer any advice?

SmartLife temperature and humidity sensor – pairing error after replacing the 2.4 GHz battery

    Best regards
AI: Please provide the exact make and model of this sensor, or alternatively post a photo of the label or a link to the exact same device.
I don’t know the manufacturer; I bought it from a Chinese seller.
AI: What exact error does SmartLife display at the end of the pairing process, and in which mode are you adding the sensor: quick pairing/EZ or AP mode, i.e. via the Wi-Fi network created by the sensor?
The Wi-Fi icon flashes slowly and goes out before the registration is complete.

Did you set the correct date and time after replacing the battery?
Cheap rubbish – it doesn’t have an internal backup battery!

    Hello.

Actually, it isn’t possible. You can only do that once you’ve connected to the app. I’ve got another one, exactly the same, except that the display doesn’t have that coloured line.
And the one I got after replacing the battery connects without any problems.

    1. Change the pairing mode to EZ (Quick Pairing).
    2. Completely remove the ‘old’ device from the app.

That’s exactly what I did. I uninstalled it from the app and also deleted it from my phone.
I’ll try pairing it via my computer, if that’s possible.

I have exactly the same sensor, at least judging by the photo. I’ve changed the batteries many times – or rather, the rechargeable batteries, as I’ve fitted Ni-MH ones, which I recharge every now and then – and I’ve never had any problems. It simply connects to Wi-Fi shortly after I insert the batteries, synchronises the time and carries on working briskly. Of course, I paired it with the app at some point (once ;-) ).
There’s a backlight button on the top of my model. Perhaps you can use it to reset the thing? Have you tried that?

    Hello

Same as before. Do you happen to have the box with the QR code? I threw mine away ages ago. Perhaps you could use that code to pair it again. I don’t know which company makes this sensor.

Mine’s gone missing too. But I reckon it was just a code to download the app? I even had a look for it, as I thought there might be instructions on it. But I found it online – unfortunately, not a word about resetting it.

    Added after 6 [minutes]:

I even found a link to the offer in my purchase history; it’s still valid. By the way, it’s gone up in price – over 50 zlotys; just under two years ago I paid half that.

There are instructions there too, but since I’ve already downloaded it, I’m posting it here. Just as I thought, the QR code is for the SmartLife app. Not a word about resetting it.

In the name of science, I held down the backlight button a little longer. The Wi-Fi indicator started flashing. A prompt to add a new device appeared in the app (SmartLife in my case). I added it, it thought and thought, and… the process failed. I took a closer look and the problem was probably caused by the smartphone being connected to a different Wi-Fi SSID than the one selected when adding the device in SmartLife. I have several SSIDs at home, although in terms of addressing it’s a single network – never mind the details. In any case, it worked on the second attempt. I hadn’t removed the sensor from the app beforehand.
Perhaps you’re experiencing something similar – is this what you mean by those SSIDs?

Just to wrap up, because I’ve had enough of this pairing business.
When it asks for a Wi-Fi network, which one should I choose?
Mine, with my password, or the one created by the sensor, i.e. SmartLife-8D84 (I don’t have a password for that one)

In my phone’s settings, I have the following networks:
ITEAD (this one’s from Sonoff) and SmartLife

P.S. I’m writing this from my computer now and my login details have changed.

In the Smartlife app, I connected to the same device (router, access point) to which my smartphone was currently connected and to which the sensor was to be connected.
Edit: I didn’t even notice the network created by the sensor.

I’ll give it a miss – there’s no way to add it. Google Home, Ewlink and SmartLife all detect the sensor, but each one shows an error during the setup process. Either I’m doing something wrong, or this sensor is faulty.

At the moment, I’ve got two temperature and humidity sensors working – the ones without a display – and one more of the same type, but as I mentioned, without that coloured line. On top of that, I’ve got two ON/OFF switches and a door-open sensor. All of these connect correctly and are displayed correctly in the app. It’s just this one that won’t work.

I think we can close this thread, as it’s a waste of both time and effort.

Best regards, and thank you all for your help.

Well, it’s up to you. You haven’t explained whether your smartphone and the sensor are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (SSID). Or, to be precise, whether you want to connect them to the same network in the app. For example, if my smartphone is connected to a network called, say, Mojdom (assuming the sensor is also meant to be connected to it), then in the app I should also connect the sensor to Mojdom. In any case, I think the app defaults to selecting and attempting to connect to the network to which the smartphone is currently connected.
Of course, a fault with the device cannot be ruled out, but certain symptoms – such as the app’s detection – suggest that it is not quite ;)

It’s the same network: the mobile phone connects to the router, and the other devices (computers, the TV, the printer and others) connect to the same connection. I don’t know why this one sensor is causing so many problems.
All that’s left for me to try is using a second mobile phone. I tried using a computer, but it’s too complicated – you can see what’s connected, but you can’t add new devices. You have to emulate it.

Whilst pairing, try turning on your location and Bluetooth (unless it’s already on). Also, grant the app access to your location.

It’s doing the same on another phone too, so there must be something wrong with the sensor. I’ll just give up on it and buy a new one.

For me, pairing with Smartlife works as follows. Bluetooth must be switched on for the device to be detected. This is mentioned in the manual I posted earlier. Press and hold the backlight button on the sensor for about 5 seconds; the Wi-Fi indicator will start flashing.
The smartphone is connected to the Wi-Fi network Dom2 , to which the sensor will also be connected.
    1.
Smart Life screen showing “Devices to add: 1” and an Add button for a Wi‑Fi sensor

    2.
SmartLife app screen for Wi‑Fi details: network “Dom2”, password field redacted, “Next” button.

    3.

SmartLife “Add device” screen showing “Added successfully” for a WiFi temperature sensor

You can also add devices in SmartLife using the ‘+’ button and ‘Add device’; the screens look slightly different, but the result is the same.

If you’re doing the same but it won’t connect, well, I suppose it’s time to send the contraption off to the scrapyard.
It’s puzzling that it stopped connecting after changing the battery (for the first time?). As I mentioned, I haven’t had any problems with it. After taking it out, even for a longer period (as I mentioned, I recharge the rechargeable batteries), I put it back in and the sensor connects to the cloud after a few seconds, synchronises the time, and simply starts working. There’s no need to reset anything, pair it again, etc.

    Hello

I’m returning to the topic of the temperature and humidity sensor.
Unfortunately, the problem persists. I haven’t managed to sort it out. Various apps can detect it, but when I try to add it, an error pops up right at the end. The same thing happens when I try with a different phone. I also tried via a computer; some apps only allow reading. They don’t let you add it. Others need to be emulated, which I find complicated, so I eventually gave up.
Perhaps I’ll try again sometime, but I can see it’s a waste of time.
Either I’m doing something wrong, or the sensor is faulty.

Thank you all for taking an interest in the problem and for your help.

    Best regards.
