There was an error while uploading the firmware and since then it does not respond to at commands, I heard that after uploading the firmware maybe the module can lock itself. My question is if anyone also locked themselves out of the module but managed to unlock it.

The won firmware is : ESP8266 AT Bin V1.6.2
    GPI00 connected to GND

If something went wrong when uploading the FW then it just won't boot. Upload FW to it again.
Make sure the version definitely matches your board. I mean especially the flash size and if you uploaded the fw under the correct offsets.

I have uploaded as it is written in the readme file
ESP8266 e12 not responding after AT Bin V1.6.2 firmware upload error

at the end of the upload it gives an error
ESP8266 e12 not responding after AT Bin V1.6.2 firmware upload error

Uploading the files one by one I discovered that only at the file user1.1024.new.2.bin an error pops up. Maybe this is because the first time I entered the address incorrectly, instead of 0x01000 I entered 0x10000

    Hello
I had the same problem with uploading the software for this module. The reason was exactly the same error with addressing as you did. After correcting the address everything works and the module responds to AT commands.
In conclusion thanks for the inspiration to find such a trivial error.
    Regards.
