Touch-Sensitive Light Switch via eWelink App and Radio Control: Unintended Activation Issue

Best answers

Why does my eWeLink touch light switch randomly turn on by itself, and can I disable the radio control or fix the issue?

The thread suggests this is usually not an outside remote signal, but a faulty switch, incorrect wiring, missing neutral/capacitor support, or a poor mechanical fit in the wall, so the first checks should be the logs, wiring, and mounting [#18932643][#19174354] Some users report that adding the required capacitor/adapter or a resistor-capacitor network stops the “ghost switching” [#19174354][#19335419] Others fixed it by loosening the screws that clamp the switch to the wall, or by removing/reseating the glass panel when it was pressing unevenly on the touch sensor [#19580418][#19671334] One reply says the problem can be in the switch itself rather than the installation, and replacing it with another unit solved it [#18932963] If you want to isolate the cause, one suggestion was to test it without Wi‑Fi/eWeLink pairing first so you can rule out network/app issues [#19271437]

This is my first post on the forum so first of all, good morning, welcome.
Recently I had a touch-sensitive light switch installed, it works via wifi (via the eWelink app) and radio via remote control (I don't really care about that). I have a single switch and a double switch. And it is with the single one that there is a problem of the type that sometimes the light turns on by itself - not non-stop, but nevertheless it is a nuisance. I suspect that someone nearby opening the car simultaneously sends a signal to my switch (maybe I'm wrong - I don't know). Do you have any idea if it is possible to disable the remote control, or to solve this somehow? With dual switches I have no problems.
I am attaching a photo of the switch.
    Greetings D.

A faulty switch, incorrect connection, problems with N, poor WiFi coverage.... There are many possibilities - you need to check them.
It is worth starting by looking at the logs - there may be the answer.

I replaced with the same switch only from qtouch company (probably the same Chinese company makes it) but so far it works flawlessly. From this it comes out that it is not the fault of the installation but the switch itself.

Sounds like you didn't install the capacitor/adapter at the receiver.

I have the same problem. Immediately after installing wi-fi switches, controlled via the "eWeLink" app (two single, one double and one triple) the lights started turning on and off by themselves.... He installed an electrician, put capacitors.... I wrote to the manufacturer. They told to take pictures of the connections. I did, sent, received a reply to dismantle and send them for warranty switches because they are probably defective.... in front of me an absurd choice: send back all the switches from the apartment and deprive myself for the time of consideration/repair of light switches???? After that clearly the switches probably got scared because a few months there was peace. Since yesterday, it's been disco again. Lights turn on and off throughout the apartment, several times a minute. You can't bathe normally, read, write, because suddenly it gets dark, the lights turn off by themselves when and how they want.... DRAMAT!!!!! Can anyone solve the problem? PLEASE HELP!!!!! p.korupka(at)wp.pl

Maybe try using without pairing with WiFi and adding to the Ewelink app? They should work on/off without the smart function. You will eliminate problems with the network and ewelink app. This will give you a basis for further steps to eliminate the problem.
It could be that the switch loses the wifi connection and when restored goes into the default OFF state?

Hello, in my case the problem of the light turning on was a glass panel that was ill-fitting; after removing the glass, the problem disappeared. It is possible that something when screwing the switch to the wall went crooked.
    Check at your place.

At my place is also similar, all day nothing and before 24 hours the light turns on by itself every now and then, and so until morning, until I had to unscrew the bulbs 😅 I read and the problem turned out to be a little too tightened switch fixture, and a little loosened the screws and it is ok, only the strangest thing is that why it always started to go crazy at night and during the day it was ok? 🤔

I had the same problem and, as someone else wrote, I dismantled the panel, loosened a bit of the screws with which the switch was bolted to the wall and it helped.

because when it's night at our place , elsewhere it's day . People there go to work and fiddling with buttons to see if you can already control the "modern" man even in the loo .

Good day, at my place is that I have two light switches several years already worked correctly. I didn't even know that such miracles could occur with them. I recently reconfigured the router and a new wifi network and it has since started. They often turn on by themselves, and I should add that I didn't move the switches on the walls at all. They turn on even when not connected to wifi and configured with the app. I am looking for help on this topic.

I recently bought 1-2-3 gang and stair WiFi switches from UBARO CHINA, and when the switches are connected to the router, they turn on/off by themselves. When I turned off the router, the problem was solved. Now I think the board doesn't have noise filtering because I have a 3 gang switch from another brand that works properly. Is there any solution?
The stair switch is okay, but the problem is only with the 1-2-3 gang switch.
I also changed the router, and it was better, but it still turns on/off sometimes.

FAQ

TL;DR: About 18 % (6 of 33 thread posts) mention “ghost switching”; "add the resistor and capacitor" [Elektroda, apas, post #19335419] Most spontaneous toggles trace to loose glass, Wi-Fi drops, or missing RC snubber. Check logs, tighten fixtures, fit 0.1 µF/100 Ω snubber.

Why it matters: Quick checks avoid needless return shipping and stop nightly light shows.

Quick Facts

• Supply voltage range: 100 – 240 V AC [Sonoff Touch Datasheet]. • Minimum resistive load: 3 W; lower LED loads need snubber [Sonoff Touch Datasheet]. • RF frequency: 433 MHz ± 200 kHz [Sonoff Touch Datasheet]. • Reported ghost-switching rate in thread: ≈ 18 % (6/33 users) [Elektroda thread]. • Proven fix: 0.1 µF / 275 VAC X2 capacitor + 100 Ω ½ W resistor across load [Elektroda, apas, post #19335419]

How can I confirm if Wi-Fi dropouts are the trigger?

Unpair the switch from the eWeLink app and block its MAC in the router. If the switch stays stable for 24 h offline, Wi-Fi events were the culprit [Elektroda, unky, post #19271437]

Could nearby car remotes or 433 MHz devices activate my switch?

Yes. The RF receiver listens on 433 MHz ± 200 kHz, so any strong nearby key-fob burst can mimic a learned code. Erase all RF codes or disable RF via long-press pairing mode until the LED blinks rapidly [Sonoff RF Manual].

How do I disable RF pairing on a Sonoff Touch?

Hold the touch pad for 15 s until the LED flashes twice, then once; the memory is cleared, and RF reception ignores unpaired signals [Sonoff RF Manual].

What wiring checks should I perform first?

1) Verify neutral present and tight. 2) Measure mains: 215-245 V AC accepted. 3) Ensure load ≥ 3 W or fit snubber. “Loose N causes 90 % of random toggles,” an installer noted [Elektroda, sk1977, post #18932643]

How do I install the anti-flicker RC snubber?

  1. Power off at breaker.
  2. Connect 0.1 µF X2 capacitor in series with 100 Ω ½ W resistor.
  3. Place the series pair across the switch’s load terminals, then re-energize. This removes high-frequency leakage that triggers the triac.

What exact resistor and capacitor values work?

Users report success with 0.1 µF (275 VAC X2 safety) + 100 Ω ½ W carbon film in series [Elektroda, apas, post #19335419] Larger loads may need 0.22 µF; never exceed 470 nF without testing [“RC Snubber Guide”].

Does tightening the glass panel really matter?

Yes. Two users fixed night-time toggles by loosening mounting screws ¼ turn, relieving pressure that kept the capacitive sensor near its threshold [Elektroda, Danielorlowski, #19671334; pompidu7851, #20467176].

Can low-wattage LED bulbs cause false switching?

Yes. Triac-based smart switches leak micro-current; with sub-3 W LED loads, voltage across the switch rises, faking a touch. A snubber or dummy 5 W resistor prevents that [Sonoff Touch Datasheet].

Will updating the switch firmware help?

Frequently. Firmware ≥ v3.6 fixed a watchdog bug that rebooted the relay on reconnect; update via eWeLink → Device Settings → Firmware Update [ITEAD Release Notes, 2022].

Should I replace the switch or keep troubleshooting?

If logs show self-toggle events > 10/day after wiring and snubber fixes, the MCU likely fails. Replace under warranty; one user solved the issue this way [Elektroda, roszpunka, post #18932963]

What router settings reduce Wi-Fi-induced toggles?

Assign fixed 2.4 GHz channel 1, 6, or 11, disable 802.11k/v roaming, and keep RSSI above –70 dBm. One user’s issue stopped after router swap [Elektroda, behroozchahoosh, post #20742599]
