Hi. I have this issue. I'm currently doing a renovation of my flat and would like to distribute flush mounted cables sensibly.
I would like to be able to access a PC that is standing in the office, in the living room. The distance is less than 10m. I want to be able to connect a keyboard/mouse or a gaming pad - so that there is no lag.

Initially I had the idea of running a 10m HDMI cable and a 10m USB cable. However, I was advised to use a twisted pair instead of an HDMI cable and use an adapter to convert this to HDMI. I don't know about the USB cable - theoretically there are 10m active cables on the market but supposedly more than 5m doesn't make sense.

Is there any point in going into the subject of a 10m twisted pair and 10m usb ? Maybe there is a better solution? Maybe someone has done a similar solution and can recommend something ?

    Best regards

There are HDMI to USB converters, however most work in FHD, there are versions that can work in 4K resolution but these are a different cost.

I've encountered feedback that there was visible lag at 60m, but I'm not sure if that wasn't the fault of cheap converters.

I use these https://sklep.delta.poznan.pl/extender-hdmiusb-ex-100_l1_p10260.html and haven't noticed - the problem is the memory stick itself connected to them - they can hang the device.

And it's interesting that a colleague uses and doesn't see the quality and latency saving on this converter, even though the vendor himself describes these as downsides of this converter. Flush mounted cables 10m - communication with PC in other rooms .

@adversus Maybe so drive up to Delta and check what they currently offer because for the 100m version they currently have a higher KVM model https://sklep.delta.poznan.pl/extender-hdmiusb-ex-60_l1_p13173.html with two USB ports and an HDMI pass-through socket on the transmitter side, the photo as well as the description on the website is out of date.

I was referring to your post, and I was in Delta today :) because I was just buying HDMI converters (such a coincidence, I recommend fresh yeast from them as always - such a Delta marketing ploy as they are housed in an old bakery).
You're recommending something that has a description that I've flagged up in the screenshot so that the author of the topic knows that the indicated extender isn't necessarily as great as you describe it, just so much on topic. Nothing personal.

Yes? And I wonder if you noticed the company name on the carton?

Topic summary

The discussion revolves around the optimal method for connecting a PC located in an office to peripherals like a keyboard, mouse, or gaming pad in a living room, over a distance of less than 10 meters. The user initially considered using a 10m HDMI cable and a 10m USB cable but received advice to utilize a twisted pair cable with an HDMI adapter instead. Concerns were raised regarding potential lag with long HDMI connections and the effectiveness of active USB cables beyond 5m. Participants shared experiences with HDMI to USB converters, noting varying performance, especially at longer distances. Recommendations included specific extenders from Delta, highlighting models that support both HDMI and USB connections, while also addressing issues of latency and quality.
