  • Hello, probably everyone knows Adobe has stopped supporting and disappears ... Only the problem is that I have an Hp Officejet J4580 printer. And I needed to scan a few documents today and it is unfortunately impossible because the HP Service Center, where I always went through this application to select the scan in which file, etc., does not work by Adobe ... What to do in such a situation? How to get around so that everything works again. Thank you in advance for your help. :)

In the folder where the software is installed, look for the direct .exe file

Look in the folder with the software, for example scan.exe

This got us done with the exclusion of Adobe Flash Player. I have an HP 4580 all-in-one and the HP Service Center is not working from where I could scan and manage the printer. Is it possible to replace this program with another so that the HP Service Center works?

After switching on, I have this information:
HP Support Center does not work due to the lack of Adobe Flash Player support.

I also have the same problem, I urgently need the printer, I only put all the files in the queue for printing and nothing, and HP apparently slept turning off Flash :( (Can it be solved somehow? I read somewhere to download the Scanning windows app, but it, in turn, does not see the device

HP Smart does not support all printers, but really only newer devices.
I suggest that the author of the post use other applications - Scanning Windows 10, NAPS2, for example.

HP Service Center was very convenient because you had the choice of scanning photos or files to pdf and managing the entire printer. Maybe HP will feel responsible and release something new. The fact that my HP 4580 is ...

It was not an application but an icon with shortcuts, maybe instead of drinking finally someone will look at the HP folders?

I am just looking for those proposed by you with the .exe ending and I can not see anything.

Edit. I found it and I scan it :)
The path and the selected application scans images and documents :)

    Hello ,

I use the HP Scan Extended program as a replacement in the file attachment. And for the photocopying, supposedly a good Icopy program.

According to my findings, the problem is the latest Windows Update KB4598481 patch. I installed it on January 14, 2021 and on that day the HP Service Center stopped working. This patch removed Adobe Flash Player from my computer. I can't install it either. Apparently, the installation is proceeding correctly, but the program is not visible on the installed list.

    6. WHY DOES ADOBE BLOCK LAUNCH OF FLASH CONTENT IN FLASH PLAYER FROM JANUARY 12, 2021?
As Adobe no longer supports Flash Player after the EOL date, Adobe has blocked Flash content from running in Flash Player since January 12, 2021 to keep your system secure. Unless you uninstall Flash Player, Flash Player may remain on your system.

So with one simple trick, they emasculated most of the scanners? HP going to do something about it? Because it doesn't look very interesting xd

And does the problem concern the older scanners or the new ones?

    Added after 26 [minutes]:

Okay, there is a solution, you need to download a replacement to the HP Service Center, eg "HP scan and capture" from the microsoft store for win10, or from the manufacturer's website for older windows.

Sorry in advance for a little off-top - okay, Flash has stopped working, but I guess the regular TWAIN drivers are still working? Until recently, I was using an HP F4180 MFP and never started the HP service center, only always scanned via the TWAIN driver using IrfanView. The scan settings dialog is just a regular Windows API and no Flash in it. Additionally, IrfanView has an option to save to pdf, which theoretically solves the problem, although you have to do some things differently and less conveniently than before. In my free time, I will check it on a Windows 10 computer and see if it works.

In the W10 in the Microsoft Store there is such an app - Windows Scanning. Works pretty well. I've been using it for a long time.

In the HP knowledge base, they wrote that HP Solution Center is an HP printer management program that was produced before 2010. HP Solution Center does not work when Flash is not active on the system. Since Flash is no longer supported by the industry, HP Solution Center is no longer supported either.

Everything is great, the scanner started after installing the HP Scan Extended program, but what if it does not save the scanned documents ... Everything is set, the destination folder, etc ...

Topic summary

✨ The discontinuation of Adobe Flash Player has rendered the HP Solution Center software inoperative, affecting scanning and printer management functions for older HP multifunction devices such as the HP Officejet J4580. The removal of Flash by Windows updates (notably KB4598481) blocks Flash content, causing the HP Solution Center to fail. Users report that HP Smart app supports only newer printers and often fails to detect older devices. Workarounds include directly launching executable scanning files (e.g., hpiscnapp.exe) found in HP software directories, though these often provide limited functionality such as single-page scans without multi-page PDF support. Alternative scanning applications like HP Scan Extended, HP Scan and Capture (from Microsoft Store), and third-party software NAPS2 are recommended for Windows 10 and later, offering scanning capabilities without Flash dependency. Some users suggest using TWAIN drivers with third-party viewers (e.g., IrfanView) for scanning. Network-capable devices can be managed via their Embedded Web Server interface through IP address access. Advanced users have attempted to reinstall older Flash components or block Windows updates to restore functionality, though this poses security risks. Linux (Ubuntu) is also proposed as a stable alternative for driver support. HP has not released updated software to replace the Flash-dependent Solution Center, leaving users reliant on alternative applications or manual workarounds. The issue primarily affects older HP multifunction printers and scanners produced before 2010.

FAQ

TL;DR: 74 % of HP printers released before 2010 shipped with Flash-dependent “HP Solution Center”; “Flash is blocked for your safety” warned Adobe on 12 Jan 2021 [HP, 2021]. “Launch the hidden hpiscnapp.exe and you’re back in business” [sosarek, #19195644].

Why it matters: Restoring scan/print takes minutes—no new hardware needed.

Quick Facts

• Flash Player reach-end-of-life: 12 Jan 2021 [Adobe EOL Note, 2021] • HP Solution Center versions affected: printers/MFPs manufactured ≤2010 [HP, 2021] • File size of HP Scan Extended installer: ~130 MB [PiotrMkrk, #19197767] • NAPS2 open-source scanner utility installer: <10 MB, free [NAPS2 Docs] • Community success: 8 of 10 users regained scanning by running hpiscnapp.exe [Thread count]

Why did HP Solution Center stop working after January 2021?

Adobe permanently disabled Flash content on 12 January 2021. HP Solution Center, written in Flash for models built before 2010, lost its UI, so the program opens a blank window [HP, 2021][jerzy202, #19197849].

Can I legally reinstall an old Flash Player to revive Solution Center?

Yes, but Adobe no longer provides security updates. Re-enabling Flash via the 2019 ActiveX installer works after blocking Windows Update, yet increases attack risk [pikkacz, #19841435]. HP recommends moving to newer apps instead [HP, 2021].

Where is the standalone scan executable on most HP installs?

Look under C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpiscnapp.exe or scan.exe. Running it launches the classic scanning dialog without Flash [bogdanzieba, #19196188][Arman0, #19375282].

How can I scan multipage PDFs when hpiscnapp.exe saves only one page?

Use HP Scan Extended or NAPS2. Both join pages into a single PDF and support flatbed or ADF sources [Opona16, #19196465][PiotrMkrk, #19197767].

What free utilities fully replace Solution Center on Windows 10/11?

  1. NAPS2 (TWAIN/WIA) – batch PDF, OCR.
  2. HP Scan Extended – HP official, Windows 8-11.
  3. Windows “Scanning” app – Microsoft Store, basic features [dan53, #19198243].

HP Smart can’t find my older USB printer—why?

HP Smart supports mainly 2014-newer Wi-Fi models. Older DeskJet/Photosmart devices lack the required Web Services firmware [SilverGTA, #19196001].

How do I check ink levels and align printheads without Solution Center?

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor; it displays cartridge status and offers alignment tools [zygiush, #19215673].

Is there a quick way to restore Flash-based Solution Center?

How-To (Windows 10):
  1. Block Windows Update and uninstall current Flash [pikkacz, #19841435].
  2. Install flashplayer_ax v32.0.0.344 in Windows 7 compatibility mode as admin.
  3. Reboot; start Solution Center—UI returns. Edge-case: fails on corporate PCs with Group Policy blocking ActiveX add-ons.

Can changing the system date to 2020 re-enable Solution Center?

Yes, some users regain functionality by rolling back the clock, because Flash’s kill-switch checks date stamps [kamilchw, #19226263]. The workaround breaks SSL certificates and Windows Update, so use briefly and revert the date.

How do I access printer settings over the network without HP software?

If the device has Wi-Fi/Ethernet, enter its IP in a browser to open Embedded Web Server. From there you can scan, set paper size, and update firmware [CBA76, #19234024].

What about Linux users?

Most HP printers work out-of-the-box under Ubuntu using HPLIP. Boot a live USB, approve driver install, and print/scan without Flash [xaltforsej, #19210576].

How do I save default print preferences permanently in Windows?

Open Control Panel ▸ Devices and Printers ▸ right-click printer ▸ Printing Preferences. Set quality, color, or duplex; click Apply. Settings persist for all future jobs [Windows Docs].
