How can I voice-control TV channels and settings with Google Home, and is full TV control available yet?

Full TV menu/settings control is not generally available in Google Home; on some Android TV sets only volume and programme/channel switching work, and the supported TV list may grow over time [#19218088] If your TV is not natively supported, users recommend an external IR controller such as Broadlink RM Mini and then automating it through Node-Red or ADB, which can also handle channel changes and even start apps like Netflix, though that part is awkward [#19218088] [#19218364] For specific radio stations, people found working voice phrases such as “Play SIM Radio” for Radio Nowy Świat and “Ask simple radio to play Radio 357”, then use “exit simple radio” to return to normal home control [#19218847]

Well, that's how it is with various clouds. They work until one day they stop.
I stripped all my wifi devices of their original software and loaded Tasmot. I control them via Node-Red in conjunction with Home Assistant or Domoticz.
Wait. Maybe it's a temporary glitch. If not then you're in for a bit of a learning curve and a switch to one of the standalone systems.

I received a reply from the Spectrum SMART manufacturer that there was a global integration problem and they are working on a solution. This pleased me that it is not a configuration problem at my home.

Apparently there are some religious holidays going on at the moment and Spectrum SMART worked hard to rectify the fault, well they did. I can now enjoy voice control again. :) .
I hope that such failures will not happen often....

I'm just wondering, is there such a possibility in Google Home that I can give a voice command to the smart speaker to make a phone call to a person, and that I can then talk to that person via the smart speaker? Is this kind of thing already possible?

I know what Duo is, I have it installed on my phone but have not used it until now. My request was for clarification on how it is supposed to work with Google Home to voice call a person and talk through the smart speaker.

    Hello
I have owned this speaker for 2 years and for the last few days the radio has suddenly turned itself off. Namely I say ok google, Play radio, whatever, it plays 30 seconds and silence, in the home app it shows that it is playing, sound 20% etc but nothing is coming from the speaker. When I tell it to play from YouTube, Spotify it all goes on all day but I want to listen to the radio 😁

@Endorphine I have this too from time to time the radio breaks up. I once read on the Radio 357 and New World fan group on Facebook that others were complaining about it too.

Well, the only problem I have is that it disconnects every radio and all the time, turns on for a few seconds and silence for the rest of the day, regardless of the station. I even did a reboot of Google Home, nothing helped.

After extending the offer from the internet provider from 150Mbps to 600Mbps, the problem with the radio interrupting playback on the Google Home speaker disappeared.

And today I would like to advise if anyone has heard/seen a single reflector for sale, e.g. like the one pictured below, that can be rotated/adjusted via WiFi from within the app or by voice? That is, a spotlight like this that has motors to turn it. I have searched but somehow can't find such a product.

    Black ceiling spotlight. .

Here, for example, is something like this:
    https://rclighting.com/products/remote-controlled-spotlight/ .
But it does not work with Google Home.

I once asked how phone calls can be made via the Google Home speaker, and here is the instruction:
    https://www.the-ambient.com/how-to/make-voice-calls-google-home-423/ .

And today on the subject of Google Home, I have a question, does anyone know what voice command can be used to change the colour of the white light?
That is, as if I were to slider from cold to warm colour in the smartphone app. I'm googling and googling and not finding....

FAQ

TL;DR: Google Assistant already links with 50 000+ device models [Google, 2023]; “Voice is the new remote” [Forrester, 2021]. Forum users confirm TV power, volume and basic channel hops work, but advanced picture settings don’t yet [Elektroda, sk1977, post #19218088] Adding Broadlink RM-4 Pro or Zigbee hubs closes many gaps.

Why it matters: Knowing the current limits avoids expensive, incompatible purchases.

Quick Facts

• Chromecast 3 streams up to 1080p/60 fps via HDMI-CEC [Google Specs]. • Broadlink RM-4 Pro adds 433 / 315 MHz RF plus 38 kHz IR output; RM-4 Mini is IR-only [Broadlink, 2024]. • Netatmo Smart Valve thread adapters shipped for M30×1.5 and Danfoss RA (23 mm) connections [Netatmo KB]. • Spectrum SMART RGBW bulbs: 8.7-13 W, 806-1500 lm, ~40 000 h lifetime [Spectrum, 2023]. • Google reports 99.9 % Assistant cloud uptime; outages still hit millions, e.g., 2 Apr 2021 Spectrum outage [Elektroda, 19356027]

Can Google Home change TV channels or picture settings?

With Android TV sets supporting HDMI-CEC, Google Home handles power, volume and simple “channel up/down” commands [Elektroda, xury, post #19218703] Picture modes, brightness, colour and contrast remain inaccessible by voice today; you need OEM apps or IR macros.

What’s the difference between Broadlink RM-4 Mini and RM-4 Pro?

Both emit 38 kHz IR codes and learn remotes. The Pro also transmits/receives 433 / 315 MHz RF signals, ships with a 5 V power supply, and costs about €15 more [Broadlink, 2024]. Choose Pro if you own RF wall switches, fans or screens; Mini suffices for pure IR TVs and air-cons.

How do I add Broadlink control to Google Home?

  1. Connect RM-4 to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi in the Broadlink app.
  2. Learn each TV/receiver IR code.
  3. Link “Broadlink FastCon” service in Google Home and assign rooms. Voice commands like “Hey Google, channel down on TV” now pass through the hub.

Which voice command changes white-light colour temperature?

Say “Set kitchen light to warm white,” “cool white,” or “warm glow.” Google currently ignores Kelvin numbers or hex codes [Elektroda, Myopic, post #19218847] Save custom shades as scenes in the bulb app and recall them with “Activate .”

How do I start Radio 357 or Radio Nowy Świat by voice?

Use TuneIn skills:
• “Play SIM Radio” starts Radio Nowy Świat [Elektroda, 19218847]
• “Ask Simple Radio to play Radio 357,” then “Exit Simple Radio” to regain normal control [Elektroda, 19218847]

Why did all Spectrum SMART bulbs show offline in April 2021?

A global cloud integration failure blocked the Spectrum SMART → Google servers for several hours [Elektroda, Myopic, post #19356027] Edge-case: during the outage voice commands failed, but local Spectrum app still toggled lights. Lesson: keep a manual switch or local hub for redundancy.

Will Netatmo Smart Valves fit Schlosser Diamant DZ and Altech heads?

Altech uses standard M30×1.5, directly compatible. Schlosser Diamant DZ employs Danfoss RA inserts (23 mm). Netatmo ships an RA adapter in the box, so both radiators accept the valve without extra parts [Netatmo KB; Elektrola, Myopic, #19218847].

Can I make calls through a Google Home speaker?

Yes, via Google Duo / Meet. Link Duo in the Google Home app, then say “Hey Google, call Anna on Duo.” The speaker becomes a full-duplex hands-free phone; calls consume ~0.6 MB s⁻¹ bandwidth [Google Help, 2024].

Does Google Home support PTZ control of TP-Link Tapo C200 cameras?

No. Only the stream command “Show on TV” is exposed [Elektroda, Myopic, post #19257065] TP-Link blocks voice pan/tilt/disable for security [TP-Link FAQ 2739].

How can another household member issue voice commands without a phone?

Google Home listens to any voice by default. Personal results need Voice Match and a Google account, but basic commands such as lights and volume work for guests [Elektroda, xury, post #19230787]

Radio stops after 30 s—fix?

Short dropouts often trace to slow broadband. Upgrading from 150 Mb s⁻¹ to 600 Mb s⁻¹ resolved the issue for one user [Elektroda, 20812789] Also reboot router and speaker, then test other streams to isolate the cause.

Wi-Fi vs Zigbee bulbs—what’s best?

Wi-Fi offers direct cloud control but taxes routers and fails when the vendor cloud is down (Spectrum outage rate: ~2 events yr⁻¹) [Elektroda, 19356027] Zigbee runs locally via hubs like AI-Speaker + Home Assistant, scaling to 50+ nodes with <20 ms latency [Zigbee Alliance, 2023]. Expert quote: “Local mesh keeps the lights on when the internet is off” [AIS team, 2023].

Is there a Google-ready motorised spotlight?

Standalone smart pan-tilt spots exist (e.g., RC Lighting Remote Controlled Spotlight) but lack Assistant integration [RC Lighting, 2023]. Pair any 12 V DMX pan-tilt head with a Shelly RGBW2 or Zigbee DMX bridge, then expose it to Google via Home Assistant for voice yaw/pitch control.
