I have one of those galaxy / star projector devices and I have flashed it with openbeken (it’s a bk7231T) however after a few hours it just randomly drops off wifi and won’t reconnect. Locations and signal are excellent. I have tried various different firmware versions but no difference - I’m currently on latest.
It’s not the usual model covered on this forum it’s a slightly different model but they are all very similar.
    Chip inside is a wb2s.

ALT and non-ALT versions of T? Did you overwrite your RF partition at all? You could restore it from the original firmware backup file if you took one.

Can you clarify what alt and non alt means? I just did the usual with easy flash selected 7231T and downloaded latest version and flashed that way, never really had an issue on any of the 50+ devices I’ve now done that are openbeken.
I actually changed the chip for another one that came from another device - same issue.
I could restore the backup but I don’t really want the Tuya firmware on it (it wasn’t very good).

Do you run PowerSave 1? Does your MAC ends with 00 00 ?

Running powersave 1 on this and the old chip but made no difference. MAC address ends in 64:53

The light can be on and running and it’ll just power off and lose connectivity. Likewise if it’s sitting idle, connectivity can just “go”. Power supply is usb c on these running from an apple charger (which it came supplied with). I’ve yet to test it with another power source but I would doubt it’s that? Apple ones are usually enough for most low power devices. Naturally nothing in the logs I can see but these get cleared when a reboot occurs.
This device is the kind with a switch to run it in “wifi” mode or as a dumb device - various buttons work in this mode yet not via WiFi (and wouldn’t work in the Tuya software either) so whilst it’s similar in principle to the more common Immver projector in operation it’s quite different - the motor only moves the led nebular effect and cannot be turned off independently nor can the laser in at least in wifi mode.
This is what the device looks like. I could buy another type as they are pocket change but I’d like to fix this if I can get to the bottom of the issues. I’d even thought about swapping in a more traditional esp but the layout of the board connections won’t allow this easily.

Ive tried pluggin this in to an apple ipad charger to see if it can supply some more power - still has the same issue. Perhaps this is built into the device somewhere? A few hours totally power off. Seems a bit silly for a wifi enabled device

I’ve changed the chip now to a Tasmota’d esp12f from the usual wb2l with a bit of hacky wiring. Let’s see if this cures it.

It looks like this is something hard wired into the board that the esp connects to. 4 hours and it turns off.

The unit completely shuts down power from the usb after 4 hours, so that’s to the esp and the leds etc.
This isn’t documented on the box/manual other than stating “automatic” timer but some people online with similar units complain about their units having this shutdown happen even with stock Tuya firmware. Personally I think it’s a reason they are so cheap - the hardware probably can’t handle being powered on for much longer than that. The more expensive “Genio” lozenge shaped projectors don’t seem to have this shut down timer and will just work as needed.
So lesson learned for me, these units whilst similar in some ways are vastly different in others.

Topic summary

A user reported WiFi connectivity issues with a galaxy/star projector device based on the BK7231T chip, specifically a WB2S variant, running OpenBeken firmware. Despite excellent signal strength and multiple firmware versions tested, including the latest release, the device disconnects from WiFi after a few hours and fails to reconnect. The device model differs slightly from commonly discussed versions but shares similar hardware characteristics. No solution or workaround was provided in the discussion.
