    Hello Team,

I have moved to OpenBeken devices just a week back, it's been going good, however for a few devices, I have observed they lose WiFi connection randomly.

Screenshot with a diagnostic message about WiFi connection, including information on lost packets, signal strength, and reboot reason. Screenshot displaying a message about weak WiFi signal and connection loss. Diagnostic text regarding WiFi connection issues. Screenshot showing a report on WiFi connection, indicating weak RSSI signal (-72dBm) and reasons for device reboot.

Is there any settings that I need to change? Because for the same devices which were on Tuya earlier, I didn't face such issues.

Or is this related to my WiFi router range?

    Please help

What kind of device? Some cheapest devices may require PowerSave 1 option in order to be stable.

How does your MAC addresses look like? Maybe you've cleared RF partition?
    How far from the router?

Maybe it's not related to the range itself, but to the number of devices? Or maybe neighbour has changed his WiFi network channel and now you get interference?

I did change my Wi-Fi channel to 11 from 1, but it did not make much difference.

MAC address looks fine... no change in that.

For now, I have added another router as an extender, and that seems to have resolved it for now... will monitor for a few days.

I have also same type problem.. I have nedis lightswitch that i flashed open beken, but it randomly drops off from wifi.. then reconnects.. i keeps doing that for some hours and then just starts working again. But that is not a router range issue because i've moved the router to about 3-4m with nothing in between.. I've tried multiple settings and the problem persists.. My esphome modules work perfectly.. Don't know what else to do than to replace the bk modules (i have like 10 switches) with esp-12.. It's quite a bit of work but at least i don't have to waste the switches if i don't find the solution with open beken..

Do you have Power Save enabled?

    Hello!
I'm not quite sure how to do it properly..I can't find anything in the device configuration flags about the power save..so i tried the 'Execute custom command' and wrote 'PowerSave' in there. I just tried that to see if i leave the parameter 1 or 0 out then would it show me the status, but it just said PowerSave turned to 1..so i don't know what the state of the power save was.. What it *should* be? (I think having power save on in a small wifi light-switch feels counterintuitive; when it goes to sleep->wifi drops off..)
    Best Regards,

    Hello!
I have neither..nor Alexa..I have very simple wifi only like 5 esp devices (ESPHome with homeassistant), one intel nux as hassos server, and this openbeken switch.. I'm planning adding more, but i think this switch problem needs to be solved first so i know which hardware route to go..
    Best Regards,

    Hello again!
I already thought that the PowerSave option might have helped my issue with openbeken in these nedis smartlife wall switches.. anyway.. the issue returned and i saw and heard the switch started dropping off of wifi again a day before yesterday. I thought maybe we had some small power outage and i just wasn't aware of it and logged in to the switch and i tried setting the PowerSave on again.. (i think i have it on start up, but just to be sure i tried it again) No help..it was in loop again..like 20 sec to couple of minutes everything is well and then it drops out..light bulb status leds go out and after some like 10-20 secs it starts to blink the 'offline led' and logging into wifi and then connects back up and the whole cycle starts again.. it started working after an hour or two spontaneously.. in the morning it was connected but not in sync with homeassistant status until both button were pressed once..i think i left it like this when i went sleeping.. So something strange going on.. The switch itself is rather new..it's been in use only few months and having this issue i believe from the beginning. If it was older, i'd suspect the psu caps, but i'm running out of ideas here.. any tips are welcome..

Topic summary

✨ The discussion revolves around issues of random WiFi disconnects experienced with OpenBeken devices, specifically BK7231T bulbs. Users report that these devices, previously stable on Tuya firmware, now face connectivity problems. Suggestions include checking device settings, particularly enabling the PowerSave option, and considering the impact of WiFi channel interference and the number of connected devices. One user resolved their issue temporarily by adding a router extender. Despite attempts to adjust settings, including changing WiFi channels and enabling PowerSave, some users continue to experience intermittent connectivity issues, leading to considerations of replacing the devices with ESP-12 modules for better reliability.

FAQ

TL;DR: Set PowerSave=1 on BK7231T OpenBeken devices; "Some cheapest devices may require PowerSave 1 option in order to be stable." This one change often stops random Wi‑Fi drops. [Elektroda, p.kaczmarek2, post #20730598]

Why it matters: This FAQ helps OpenBeken users fix random Wi‑Fi disconnects or reboots on BK7231T bulbs, switches, and IR remotes.

Quick Facts

How do I fix random Wi‑Fi disconnects on BK7231T OpenBeken devices?

Enable PowerSave 1. Many budget BK7231T devices stabilize with this setting. The maintainer states, "Some cheapest devices may require PowerSave 1 option in order to be stable." Apply it first, then review other factors if needed. [Elektroda, p.kaczmarek2, post #20730598]

How do I enable PowerSave in OpenBeken via the web UI?

Use the web UI’s Tools area. 1) Open Tools → Execute custom command. 2) Enter PowerSave 1 and submit. 3) Confirm the response shows “PowerSave turned to 1.” This indicates the change applied successfully. [Elektroda, hipihei, post #20969704]

Will moving the router closer (3–4 m) solve the drops?

Not necessarily. One user moved the router to about 3–4 m with no obstacles and still had dropouts. That points to settings or interference rather than pure range. [Elektroda, hipihei, post #20967397]

Does changing my Wi‑Fi channel fix OpenBeken dropouts?

It may not. Switching from channel 1 to 11 made little difference for one user. Adding a second router as an extender stabilized the devices instead. [Elektroda, DCG, post #20731470]

Why are my OpenBeken devices randomly rebooting?

Random reboots have been observed by users alongside Wi‑Fi instability. Treat reboots as a symptom, then test PowerSave, drivers, and interference. [Elektroda, pryanik333, post #20729798]

Could MAC address or RF partition issues cause Wi‑Fi instability?

Yes. The maintainer asked whether the RF partition was cleared and how MAC addresses look. Also check device count and neighbor channel changes for interference. [Elektroda, p.kaczmarek2, post #20731413]

My Tuya firmware was stable. Why is OpenBeken unstable now?

A user reported stable operation on Tuya and drops after migrating to OpenBeken. Apply PowerSave 1 and review interference to regain stability. [Elektroda, DCG, post #20728971]

Are Nedis SmartLife wall switches affected by these dropouts?

Yes. A Nedis wall switch flashed with OpenBeken showed loops: 20–120 second uptime, then drop, offline LED, and reconnect. It later desynced with Home Assistant until buttons were pressed. [Elektroda, hipihei, post #21002752]

How do I test if SSDP or WEMO drivers cause reboots with Alexa present?

Disable SSDP and WEMO drivers for a while and observe stability. Re-enable one at a time to isolate any trigger with Alexa on the network. [Elektroda, divadiow, post #20967436]

When should I consider adding a Wi‑Fi extender or second router?

If channel changes don’t help and devices still drop, add an extender. One user’s links stabilized after introducing a second router as an extender. [Elektroda, DCG, post #20731470]

How can I confirm that PowerSave actually changed state?

Run the PowerSave command in the web UI. A reply like “PowerSave turned to 1” confirms the setting took effect on the device. [Elektroda, hipihei, post #20969704]

Can a small Home Assistant setup still see OpenBeken Wi‑Fi loops?

Yes. One user with a few ESP devices, a Home Assistant server, and one OpenBeken switch still saw recurring dropouts. [Elektroda, hipihei, post #20969704]

What reconnect cycle indicates this instability pattern?

Watch for 20–120 seconds of normal operation, then a drop. LEDs go dark, after 10–20 seconds the offline LED blinks, and the device reconnects. [Elektroda, hipihei, post #21002752]

Should I replace BK7231T modules with ESP‑12 if issues persist?

Consider it only after trying PowerSave 1 and driver isolation. One user planned ESP‑12 replacements, but that is a last-resort path. [Elektroda, hipihei, post #20967397]
