    Welcome,

I'm doing a bit of work on home automation and have a dilemma which I hope will be resolved quickly and positively.

I have a Sonoff which controls my lighting at the property however it only runs remotely via smartphone or with pre-programmed lighting hours. I would like it to be possible to connect with a motion sensor so that:
1 as before it starts remotely or timed as programmed,
2 When there is movement on the property (car entering), the lights are activated by the motion sensor.

Wouldn't connecting it in such a way as shown in the diagram result in a failure (switching off) of the sonoff or the photocell when the lamps are working (sonoff has started them in accordance with the schedule) and when there is movement on the property and the photocell also supplies voltage.

Thank youHow do I connect the Sonoff to a motion sensor to avoid failure? for your help.

Diodes unnecessary. They could even be very harmful in certain types of lighting. It's not direct current. The relays inside are the ones that provide the separation.

just won't the lack of a diode damage the relays whether in the sonoff or the motion sensor?

How do I connect the Sonoff to a motion sensor to avoid failure? No will not cause. Buckle up boldly. L with N just don't get confused. The relay is on the phase track. The neutral goes through. See photo. Motion sensor the same.

    Motion sensor alike.

Are you sure about this? The author did not specify the sensor model, I personally have encountered sensors that did not have a relay.

Show it, in that case, and state the switching power. Because they all have so far.

I have encountered sensors on a triac, which is why I approach such topics with caution.

Hello, has this combination worked well?

Topic summary

The discussion addresses integrating a Sonoff smart switch with a motion sensor to enable lighting control both remotely/timed and via motion detection. Concerns were raised about potential failures or conflicts when both the Sonoff and motion sensor attempt to supply voltage simultaneously, possibly causing relay damage or switching issues. It was clarified that diodes are unnecessary and may be harmful in certain lighting setups because the relays inside the Sonoff provide electrical separation. The relay is placed on the phase line, with neutral passing through, and the motion sensor wiring should follow the same principle. However, caution is advised since some motion sensors may not contain relays and could use triac-based switching, which affects compatibility and wiring considerations. The importance of verifying the sensor's switching method and power rating was emphasized to avoid damage or malfunction.
