Hi,
I have some Apple Homekit/Matter smart bulbs in my flat that I would like to integrate with traditional light switches. I know I need a Matter relay to do this, however these devices require a neutral cable. Unfortunately, I have an old installation where the neutral is only in the can under the ceiling. It is neither in the switch box nor in the ceiling where the lamp is mounted. And that's the problem, because the box with the neutral is so stuffed that no switch will fit in there. Instead I found some relays supposedly not requiring a neutral, e.g. this Chinese one or Aqara , I understand that in my case this is the only option, there is no other workaround? How do such relays work, do they have some kind of battery built in? Can I mount such a module in the soffit of a ceiling lamp, or does it have to be a switch box? I am completely green with electrics, also forgive the perhaps stupid questions.
